What do I do if my dog has eaten a burr?

While running around outside my dog is always getting burrs in his fur.

Burrs

If your dog happens to eat burrs that they are trying to pick out of their fur, don't panic! It can be very scary because they start to cough, throw up and basically choke. A helpful hint that someone gave to me when this happened to our dog was to feed them peanut butter and stale crunchy bread. The combination of the two helps exfoliate the burr pieces out of the throat. It most likely will not clear up right away and might take a few tries but its better than leaving it alone. If you leave your dog alone they can start eating things around the house...shoes, carpets, pillows, even their own fur, just to clear their throats.
